The Making of a Disciple

Oct 4, 2026  •  Senior Pastor John Guillory

What does it truly mean to follow Jesus beyond simply believing in Him? This message digs into the heart of that question, drawing from the Great Commission in Matthew 28 and Jesus's own prayer in John 17. There is a meaningful and often overlooked distinction between being a convert and being a disciple. A convert places faith in Christ for salvation, but a disciple goes further, making a deliberate, daily choice to surrender personal will and align life with the Word of God. The central call is not just to receive grace but to be transformed by it, allowing Scripture to reshape character, habits, and relationships from the inside out. The process is not about perfection but about cooperation, giving God permission to work in us and committing to respond when His Word reveals areas that need change. This is the sanctification process Jesus prays over us in John 17, and it is ongoing, active, and deeply personal.
