Beyond Casual Christianity

May 10, 2026

This powerful message challenges us to examine the depth and authenticity of our Christian walk, asking a penetrating question: Are we living casual Christianity, or are we truly disciples of Jesus Christ? Drawing from Romans 12:1-2, we're reminded that transformation comes through the renewing of our minds—not through comfortable, feel-good messages, but through the truth of God's Word that sets us free. The sermon confronts the modern tendency toward faith in moderation, where we want to feel religious without prioritizing our relationship with God. But Scripture calls us to something radically different. According to 2 Timothy 1:7, we have been given a sound mind—one characterized by power, love, and self-control. The Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20 isn't a suggestion but a command to make disciples, which requires us to deny ourselves daily, take up our cross, and follow Jesus wholeheartedly. This message invites us to move beyond being 'wine-bibbers' who simply consume spiritual food for ourselves, and instead become active participants in God's kingdom work. When we come to God's house, do we come expecting transformation? Do we leave different than when we arrived? The call is clear: we must rediscover what it means to be true disciples who are progressively becoming like Christ in character, conduct, attitudes, and actions.
